Michael Haupt to head Nexen’s OE tyre development

South Korea tyremaker Nexen Tire has appointed Michael Haupt as the head of ‘Premium OE’ business sector at the recently-opened Nexen Central Research Institute (Nexen univerCITY). He was former tyre development specialist at Porsche. Haupt will be responsible for creating premium tyres for OEM customers.

Hyundai Venue Selects Nexen Tire as Original Equipment

Nexen Tire recently announced that its N’Priz AH8 tire has been selected as the original equipment for the new Hyundai Venue.

The company states that this grand-touring all season tire is well suited for Hyundai’s seventh SUV release.

The new SUV will be equipped with the size 205/55/R17 of the N’Priz AH8. This is the tire’s  13th OE size fitment in the U.S. market.

Sumitomo technology generates power from tires

Tokyo – Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI), in collaboration with Professor Hiroshi Tani of Kansai University, has developed a new technology to generate electric power from the rotation of a tire.

The process involves installing a power generating device (energy harvester) inside a tire to convert static electricity occurring within a tire into clean energy, said the Japanese tire & rubber company in a 23 July statement.

Nexen rolls out first tire from Czech plant

London – Nexen Tire Europe has rolled out its first tires in the trial run of its European production facility in Zatec, the Czech Republic.

The first tire was “ceremonially dispatched” by Nexen Tire CEO Travis Kang on 24 April, Nexen said in a written statement to ERJ.

An official opening ceremony will be held “later this year,” the company said 20 June, without giving further details.

Nexen broke ground on the €829-million project in the north east of the Czech Republic in October 2015.
