According to an independent third-party certified fuel-economy testing by Melissa Valley Transportation Solutions, the Michelin Energy Guard system coupled with a Michelin X One tire package demonstrated a combined fuel savings of 17.01 gallons/1000 mile. The Michelin Energy Guard is a SmartWay-verified and CARB-compliant solution from Michelin Aerodynamic Solutions.
Michelin North America recently announced two new additions to its tire range. The first, aimed at the freight market, is the X One Line Energy T2, which the company claims is the most efficient trailer tire it has produced to date.
“The trailer-wheel position is challenging for long-haul tire design. The free-rolling wheel position is subject to variable loads, less maintenance and irregular wear,” explained Adam Murphy, vice president, B2B marketing, Michelin North America.
The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) has welcomed revisions to the Tyre Labelling Regulation.
The regulation, which was approved by the European Parliament on Wednesday, May 13, aims to increase consumer awareness on fuel savings, improve safety and decrease noise pollution.
Labeling will have to include the tire’s fuel efficiency, wet grip and external rolling noise.

Cambridge, May 13, 2019 – Surging gas prices have made fuel efficiency a higher priority for Canadian drivers, according to a new national survey conducted by Leger in mid-April for the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC).
Nine-in-ten drivers surveyed (92 per cent) say fuel economy is now a higher priority for them and 90 per cent understand that proper tire inflation maximizes mileage and reduces fuel costs.
