Cooper to cease light vehicle tire production at UK plant


Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe is moving forward with plans to cease light vehicle tire production at its Melksham, UK, facility.

The collective consultation process with employee representatives at the facility, which began in October 2018, has concluded and it is expected that light vehicle tire production will be phased out over a period of approximately 10 months.

Union blames cheap imports for Cooper tire plant closure

Melksham, UK — Trade union Unite has blamed ‘cheap Chinese tire imports’ for Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.’s decision to end most of the tire production at its Melksham plant.

Cooper Tire confirmed 18 Jan that it will phase out passenger car and light vehicle tire production, with the loss of 312 jobs.

The announcement came four months after the US tire maker notified workers about proposed closures at the former Avon Tyres plant.

The Chicago Museum presents its Good Design awards annually in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies for their design excellence.

Cooper Tire partners with Sailun for new tire plant in Vietnam


Cooper Tire announced that it has agreed to form a joint venture with Sailun Vietnam to build a manufacturing plant with the capacity to produce more than 2 million truck and bus radial (TBR) tires annually.

The facility will be located near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, at the site of Sailun Vietnam’s existing operations. Cooper will own 35 percent of the new venture.

Goodyear exec: Tire project meets goals


NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario — The Tire Industry Project (TIP) — a collaborative effort involving 11 tire industry CEOs to identify and address the potential human health and environmental impacts of tires throughout their life cycle — is well on its way to meeting its objectives.

This was the message of Kimm Jarden, a principal sustainability specialist at Goodyear, in her presentation at the 2018 Rubber Recycling Symposium in Niagara Falls Nov. 7-8.

Goodyear, Bridgestone Corp. and Group Michelin are co-chairs of the TIP, which was founded in 2005 under the aegis of Geneva, Switzerland-based World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Ms. Jarden said.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company is to form a joint venture with Sailun Vietnam Co, Ltd to build a 2 million capacity truck and bus radial manufacturing plant. Subject to closing and government approvals, the facility will be located near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, at the site of Sailun Vietnam’s existing operations, which early in 2018 signed an offtake agreement to produce Roadmaster, Dean and Starfire brand tyres for Cooper.
