Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has named Ben Patel as senior vice president and chief technology officer (CTO). In his new role, Patel is responsible for product planning and development, as well as engineering and technology across all regions. This means he leads a technology organization that includes a global technical centre as well as technical centres in Asia, Europe and North America.
FINDLAY, Ohio — Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. posted double-digit drops in operating income for the three- and nine-month periods ended Sept. 30 due on part of the negative effects higher costs related to U.S. import duties on Chinese products and higher manufacturing costs.

Marking its fifth year as a member of the National Association of Manufacturers’ (NAM) and Manufacturing Institute’s (MI) “Dream It. Do It.” program, Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. will again connect with more than 10,000 students – primarily eighth graders – for Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) events this year. National MFG Day 2019 is officially Oct. 4, yet Cooper’s involvement begins later this month and will run throughout October.

Cooper Tire has released a new mixed service-wide base all-position (WBA) tire as part of its Cooper Severe Series lineup.
The tire is available in 385/65R22.5 and 425/65R22.5 sizes, in load range L.
“Our Cooper Severe Series tire line, which now also includes the WBA, provides exceptional performance while giving our customers a low cost of ownership proposition,” said Gary Schroeder, executive director of Cooper’s Global Truck and Bus Tire Business.
FINDLAY, Ohio — Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has raised prices on its Cooper- and Roadmaster-brand truck tires to compensate for the elevated import duties levied by the U.S. government on truck tires from China.
The increases were effective after the start of the second quarter. Cooper declined to disclose the scale of the increase. Cooper/Roadmaster dealers contacted by Tire Business described it as a price “adjustment.”
Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has reported first-quarter 2019 net income of $7 million, or diluted earnings per share of $0.14, compared with $8 million, or $0.16 per share, last year.
• Net sales increased 2.9 percent to $619 million.
• Consolidated unit volume decreased by 0.7 percent compared to the first quarter of 2018.

The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) awarded seven tire manufacturers with a 2019 Sustainability Award for Safety and Health for their work in advancing occupational health and safety.
“USTMA members share an aspirational vision for the U.S. tire manufacturing industry of zero injuries and illnesses in the workplace,” said Anne Forristall Luke, USTMA president and CEO.
