Hanover, November 27, 2020. Automakers and commercial vehicle manufacturers are not alone in having to change their processes in response to electric mobility. Tire manufacturers too need to come up with new development concepts to accommodate this new form of propulsion. One particularly demanding field in technological terms is the development of tires for electric urban buses. In response, Continental and VDL Bus & Coach, a leading manufacturer of electric buses, have pooled their expertise and jointly developed initial prototype tires. These are currently being tested at Continental’s Contidrom proving grounds.
Yokohama Tire Corporation will implement a price increase of up to 6% on select commercial truck and bus tires sold in the U.S. This includes drive, all-position/steer and trailer tires, and is effective Dec. 1, says the company.
Continental has released a new mobile app, which the company says makes it easy to get information about Continental products.
The tire and retread selector tool helps users choose the right tire based on fleet vocation, tire size and other factors. The dealer locator provides directions and contact information for nearby Continental dealers. The newsfeed keeps users up-to-date with the latest company news and new product launches.
Automotive manufacturer Continental has launched its latest haulage tire range, the EcoRegional, which the company claims has the potential to significantly increase the efficiency of hauliers’ vehicles in regional transportation applications.
According the Continental, high efficiency is achieved thanks to a new manufacturing process in combination with a new tread design for the steering axle coupled with a rubber compound optimized for rolling resistance for the drive axle.
Goodyear has signed a five-year partnership with Bretts Transport. As part of this deal, Bretts Transport will be supplied with premium tyres from Goodyear Fuelmax Gen-2 range and be supported by TruckForce under the Goodyear Total Mobility offering.

According to an independent third-party certified fuel-economy testing by Melissa Valley Transportation Solutions, the Michelin Energy Guard system coupled with a Michelin X One tire package demonstrated a combined fuel savings of 17.01 gallons/1000 mile. The Michelin Energy Guard is a SmartWay-verified and CARB-compliant solution from Michelin Aerodynamic Solutions.
FORT MILL, S.C. August 20, 2020. Continental, one of the largest automotive technology suppliers and tire manufacturers in the world, has released the Conti EcoPlus HS3+, an ideal steer/all-position product in the long haul or line haul application, where vehicles travel 100,000 miles or more per year primarily on the highway. In field tests, it delivers 27 percent better mileage than its predecessor, Conti EcoPlus HS3.
The tire is optimized for maximum mileage performance, lowest overall fuel consumption, and durability for retreading – the key aspects for Lowest Overall Driving Cost in this segment. It features a technologically advanced cap compound to provide improved cut and tear resistance for increased mileage, balanced with excellent rolling resistance for fuel efficiency. The Conti 3G casing provides excellent heat dispersion for increased retreadability. The tire is also designed to provide a comfortable ride, as drivers may spend many hours per day in their vehicles. The Conti EcoPlus HS3+ is SmartWay verified, CARB compliant, and is covered by a seven year, three retread warranty.
Steer tires are especially important on a commercial vehicle, since they run in a single rather than a dual configuration. Steer tires are free rolling and pivot to control vehicle direction, meaning they need to be specially designed to prevent irregular wear. The Conti EcoPlus HS3+ features a tread profile that reduces sensitivity to road surface, fleet, and vehicle variations allowing for improved performance throughout tire life. Its footprint shape delivers significant wear improvements for increased removal miles. It also has a 10 percent improvement in de-coupler durability, a key feature for maximizing tire life.
The Conti EcoPlus HS3+ has a 19/32” tread depth and is currently available in the following sizes: 11R22.5 Load Range G and H, 295/75R22.5 Load Range G and H, 11R24.5 Load Range H, and 285/75R24.5 Load Range H.
With the Conti 3G casing, Continental’s wide, standardized casing construction allows for retreads up to 245 millimeters in width. The casing is ideal for multiple retread use in both long haul drive and/or long haul trailer applications. Continental offers a wide portfolio of drive and trailer retread patterns, including SmartWay verified and CARB compliant options.
The Conti EcoPlus HS3+ is also available as an intelligent tire pre-equipped with TPMS sensors, upon customer request. Maintaining proper tire inflation on a steer tire is critical, allowing fleets to extend the tread life, as well as maintain casing integrity for future retreading to the drive and trailer positions. Proper tire pressure also improves safety and handling, and helps prevent steer tire blowouts. Continental offers a full portfolio of digital tire monitoring systems to meet different fleet needs. Components of all systems can be combined to take advantage of different functionalities.
Tire monitoring solutions include the ContiPressureCheck® on-vehicle TPMS and ContiConnect Yard® digital tire monitoring system with web portal, which was named a Top 20 Product by HDT magazine.
Continental develops pioneering technologies to make commercial fleets safer, more efficient, and more connected. Michelin North America, Inc. is launching the redesigned Michelin X One Line Energy T2 tire for the line-haul market.
“The trailer-wheel position is a challenging position for long-haul tire design. The free-rolling wheel position is subject to variable loads, less maintenance and irregular wear,” said Adam Murphy, vice president of B2B marketing at Michelin North America. “This new Michelin X One Line Energy T2 product delivers both improved tread wear while providing fuel and weight savings, lowering the total cost of ownership for fleets, especially during this economically challenged time in the trucking industry.”
