GRI appoints Lugioyo head of global sales

Colombo – GRI has appointed Rafael (Tony) Lugioyo, as head of global sales to support the global expansion of its speciality tires business, the company announced 12 July.

An established supplier of industrial tires for materials handling applications, GRI expanded into agriculture and construction tires in 2018.

Based in the US, Lugioyo will lead the Sri Lankan company’s efforts to expand its sales, distribution and dealer network in the segment.

Trade Tension Deals Tractor Makers a Fresh Blow

Tariffs and trade tensions are pushing U.S. farm-equipment makers into a deeper ditch.

Deere & Co., CNH Industrial NV and other makers of the tractors and combines used to plant and harvest American crops are already facing weak demand from farmers as a result of a five-year slump in the agricultural economy.

That downturn is worsening this year as China buys less soybeans and other crops from the U.S., and manufacturers pay more for the steel and other materials they import to build their machines.

“People just aren’t buying. They’re afraid,” said David Savoie, vice president for Sunshine Quality Solutions, a Deere dealer in Louisiana where sales of big machinery have dropped significantly since last year.

Trelleborg to start expansion project at Czech plant soon

Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg AB is set to start construction on an expansion plan at its tire production facility in Otrokovice, Czechia ‘shortly’, according to a company spokeswoman.

“We recently got approval from the local authorities to start building and the construction work will start within short,” communications manager Karin Larsson said in a 13 March statement to ERJ.

Continental Announces 10-Year Agriculture Tire Warranty

Continental has announced a new agricultural tire warranty in the United States and Canada offering customers up to 10 years of coverage from the date of purchase.

The warranty applies to all Continental brand radial agriculture tires including the Tractor70, Tractor85, TractorMaster and CombineMaster. General Tire brand agriculture tires, owned by Continental, are also included in the warranty with coverage up to five years from the date of purchase.
