2019 Kumho Tire Dealer Meeting: Plans to Consolidate Tire Lines, Expand Sports Partnerships

Amid walls of red rocks hundreds of feet high and a peaceful Colorado River flowing behind them, about three dozen Kumho Tire USA dealers, wholesalers and distributors were invited to the Sorrel River Ranch Resort and Spa near Moab, Utah, to hear business updates during the company’s annual dealer meeting held Nov. 13-15. In addition, guests were introduced to Kumho’s new Road Venture MT71 tire – which will be available Jan. 1, 2020 – as part of the company’s first-ever tire launch event.

NR supply falls 7.3% in first seven months of 2019

Kuala Lumpur – The world production of natural rubber (NR) fell 7.3% year-on-year to 7.039 million tonnes during the first seven months of 2019, according to the preliminary estimates published by the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC).

Total product was hit by the outbreak of Pestalotiopsis leaf disease in the rubber producing states, with Indonesia estimating a 15% decline in annual output.

Technology: Bridgestone unveils new polymer rubber/resin polymer

Tokyo – Bridgestone Corp. has unveiled what it describes as the “world’s first” polymer that bonds rubbers and resins on the molecular level. Named Susym, the “next-generation” polymer material is expected to find applications in various fields that exceed the scope of use as a tire material, the Japanese tire & rubber company announced 11 Oc. The product, said Bridgestone, is the next step in the evolution of the company’s “high strength rubber”, unveiled in May 2018.

Michelin Uptis win Golden Steering Award for innovation

Berlin – Michelin has received the Golden Steering Wheel 2019 award for innovation of the year for its airless concept tire Uptis (unique puncture-proof tire system), the French tire maker announced 13 Nov.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Bratzel, jury member and director of the centre of automotive management at the university of applied sciences in Bergisch Gladbach described the concept tire as a “breakthrough innovation with practical utility for motorists.”

Reuters poll: Trade truce unlikely in 2020 but U.S. recession fears recede – economists
