Continental to close plants in Europe, U.S.

Continental plans a decade-long restructuring plan that will lead to the closure of plants in Europe and the U.S. in an effort to restore profits as vehicle production slows in key markets. The supplier did not say how many jobs would be lost but it estimates that globally 20,000 of its 244,000 positions will be affected by job cuts or job creation and the sale or transfer of parts of the business.

Falken factory-fit for Audi Q3, Toyota Corolla

Brussels – Falken has been approved to supply high performance tires to Audi’s compact SUV, the Q3, the company announced 19 Sept.

The SUV will be fitted with the 215/65R17 99V derivative of Falken’s Ziex ZE914 A EC AO pattern, which is exclusively available for original equipment.

The tire has low rolling resistance and good handling and braking properties “even on wet roads,” said Falken Tyre Europe, an affiliate of Japanese tire maker Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI).

Yokohama Tires has introduced a new long-haul drive tire, the 712L.

According to Yokohama, the new tire meets the performance criteria required by the long-haul transportation sector for severe snow service. Goodyear offering contract buyouts at US tire plant

Akron, Ohio — Goodyear has begun offering voluntary buyouts to certain employees at its Gadsden, Alabama, tire plant as part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its US competitiveness.

Goodyear disclosed the plan in a 8K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, stating that the move aimed to curtail the production of tires for less profitable segments of the tire market.
