Magna Tyres opens new U.S. office

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Magna Tyres Group, based in the Netherlands, has expanded into the U.S. with the opening of a sales office in Fort Lauderdale.

Waalwijk, Netherlands-based Magna, which specializes in off-the-road (OTR), industrial and truck tires, hired industry veteran Robert Smith — most recently Midwest sales representative for Maxam Tire North America  — to manage the Florida office.

Bridgestone studying power-generating tires

Tokyo – Bridgestone Corp. is studying the supply of electricity to in-wheel electric motors through tires, as part of a major research project to support wireless charging systems for electric vehicles, the company announced 5 Sept.

The tire & rubber company has partnered with Fujimoto laboratory of the graduate school of frontier sciences at the University of Tokyo and motion & control specialist NSK Ltd for the programme which is spearheaded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

Michelin, Conti, Smag to set up JV for sustainable NR

Hanover, Germany – Michelin, Continental and French farming software company Smag are to set up a joint venture business to improve the sustainability of the natural rubber (NR) supply chain.

Rubberway, said Michelin and Conti in separate statement 12 Sept, is a “technical platform” – mobile application – that identifies and evaluates practices and risks related to the sustainability the entire NR supply chain, from rubber-processing plants downstream to plantations upstream.
