GfK: Summer tire sales rise 14% in 2019

NEW YORK — Summer tire sales from independent tire dealers increased 14% in the first half of 2019, compared to the same period in 2018, according to point-of-sale data from research and analytics firm GfK.

“With 1.8 million units sold, summer tires have accounted for $291 million in revenue so far this year,” GfK said in an Aug. 27 release.

Carmakers alarmed over latest round of Chinese tariffs

Washington — Alarm bells are ringing at carmakers after the latest round of retaliatory tariffs that will hit cars exported to China from the United States. China said Friday it will impose tariffs on $75 billion worth of U.S. goods, including cars, in response to President Donald Trump’s plans to levy tariffs on $300 billion worth of Chinese goods before the end of the year.

Goodyear advances use of rice silica

Akron, Ohio – Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has progressed with the use of rice husk ash (RHA) silica in its tires as a bio-alternative to traditional sand-based silica.

The company started the production of rice-silica tires at its factory in Pulandian, china in 2015, using silica, provided by Yihai Food and Oil Industry.

In its 2018 corporate responsibility report, Goodyear said it had introduced RHA silica in ‘several of its global manufacturing facilities over the past two years.’

Enviro Systems moving forward on proposed tire recycling plant in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Scandinavian Enviro Systems A.B., the Gothenburg, Sweden-based tire pyrolysis technology firm, is moving forward with plans for a tire recycling plant in Buffalo jointly owned by Enviro Systems and a Canadian recycling concern.

Singer to acquire US hydraulic hose manufacturer

Houston, Texas – US supplier of rubber products Singer Equities Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire Hydraulic Hose and Assemblies LLC of Gorham, Maine.

HH&A will operate as a division of PRC Industrial Supply, a sales and service company also owned by Singer, according to a company news release.

Singer did not disclose the details of the agreement but said the newly acquired company would be managed by Kevin Easler, vice president and general manager for PRC.
